A Project of the University of Pennsylvania and the John Templeton Foundation

Welcome to Prospective Psychology!

Supported by two generous grants from the John Templeton Foundation, the University of Pennsylvania Positive Psychology Center has established Prospective Psychology to further the science of prospection, defined as the mental representation and evaluation of possible futures.

The first grant began in 2012 and is led by Professor Martin E.P. Seligman, Director of the University of Pennsylvania Positive Psychology Center. He and his team are building the foundation of this field through empirical research, conferences, and more. Click on “Foundations” to learn more.

The second grant began in 2013 and established theTempleton Science of Prospection Awards. In fall 2014, fifteen award winners will begin 22 to 24-month projects that aim to advance the field of prospection. View “Research Awards” to learn more.
